Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State could not get the offense going Friday night inside the ISU Arena, falling to visiting Illinois State in three sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-18).
As a team Indiana State (9-14, 3-9 MVC) hit for a season low .007 percent with 27 kills and 26 errors on 136 attacks. Illinois State on the other hand limited their errors to just 15 on the night, finishing with 43 kills for a .219 attacking percent.
Freshman Damadj Johnson finished with six kills on 15 attacks to lead the Sycamores. The East St. Louis, Illinois native was the only ISU player to post a positive attacking percent, finishing at .400 on the night.
Junior Rachel Griffin paced Indiana State with 15 assists on the night while Shannon Murphy finished with 16 digs.
The Redbirds (15-9, 8-4 MVC) were led by Jaelyn Keene who finished with a match high 14 kills. Elia Francis narrowly missed double-digit kills, finishing with nine. Jordan Weatherless assisted on 19 ILS kills while Aly Dawson led the visitors with 19 digs.
Both teams had three service aces each. Senior Bree Spangler had two for the Sycamores while Stephanie Bindernagel added one. One area that ISU held strong in was in the service errors department. Indiana State committed one service error on the night while the Redbirds went for 10.
The squad will hit the road to continue Missouri Valley Conference play Monday when they take on Drake in Des Moines, Iowa. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
