Terre Haute, Ind.—Indiana State fell to the University of Tennessee Volunteers by a score of 1 to 2 today in Knoxville, Tenn. This was the first time in program history the Sycamores have ever faced off with Tennessee
On what proved to be an exciting afternoon the Sycamores came from behind to tie the Volunteers in regulation play before falling in the first golden goal overtime period.
Tennessee first got on the board in the 23rd minute of play when Hannah Wilkinson finished a rebound off of a Rylie O'Keefe free kick.
The remainder of the first half was full of intense defensive efforts by the Sycamores. Tennessee posted 12 shots in the first half with Brittany San Roman making four saves and many other shots being blocked by the Indiana State back line.
ISU battled through the physicality to score the equalizer late into the second half of play. Each team recorded 12 fouls total during the match.
In the 84th minute of play freshman Pam Silies scored her second goal of the season when she placed the ball off of a Tennessee misplay into the net from 18 yards out to tie the game.
The Sycamores were tied with the Volunteers 1 to 1 at the end of regulation and the game proceeded into the first overtime period.
Indiana State held off the repeated offensive attacks from Tennessee until the 5th minute of overtime when Wilkinson received a through ball and shot into the upper 90 from the top of the 18 yard box.
Indiana State returns home to take on UNI on Oct. 8 for senior day at Memorial Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
