The Royce Waltman Memorial Fund is dedicated to the memory of one of the most successful coaches in the history of the Sycamore Basketball program. Waltman served as the Indiana State University head men's basketball coach from 1997 to 2007. During his tenure, he recorded 124 victories, back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament, and led some of the most memorable moments in Indiana State basketball history.
As a coach he was respected by his players for his intensity and love of the game. Among his colleagues, he created a reputation for hiring talented young assistant coaches, many of which have gone on to lead their own programs successfully.He truly cared about the lessons his student-athletes learned on and off the court. He demonstrated courage, caring and compassion for others until he lost his battle with cancer in 2014.
One of Royce's favorite sayings was, “The Team, The Team, The Team!” He believed that in order to be successful, every player had to put the team before themselves. The Royce Waltman Memorial Fund will help secure essential resources needed for Sycamore Basketball to continue to compete for championships.
