JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore David Timlin earned his way into the NCAA Championships in the 1,500 meter as the Sycamore Track and Field team wrapped up competition in the NCAA East Region Prelims on Saturday at Hodges Stadium on the campus of North Florida.
Timlin used a tremendous kick in the final 300 meters of the race to earn a 3:45.46 finish in the 1,500 meter which was second in his heat for the automatic qualifier. He joins junior Kimyanna Rudolph (pole vault), sophomore Alethia Marrero (800 meter) and junior Katie Wise (100 meter) at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. on June 10-13.
“David learned a lot from being here last year and he got a great set up to make his move,” Indiana State head coach John McNichols said. “He just exploded in that final stretch and ran a great strategic race. I'm happy to see him qualify for national championships.”
The Sycamore women's 4x100 relay (Alethia Marrero, Demetra Camble, Chidera Obasih, Katie Wise) looked for a return trip to Eugene, but despite a season best of 44.54 didn't make it on to the next round. Junior Katie Wise also narrowly missed out on qualifying in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.37 put her one place out of making it in.
Junior Adarius Washington ran a 13.94 in the men's 110 hurdles to finish 15th overall in Saturday's quarterfinal. Freshman Jamie Newsome also concluded her season with a 40'-7” ¼ leap in the triple jump to finish 28th.
