Late Rallys Down Sycamores in Series Opener With Bradley

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State Sycamores suffered a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Bradley Braves Friday evening at Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium.  ISU falls to 20-22 overall, and 5-11 in the Missouri Valley.  Bradley improves to 30-12, and 8-5 in the Valley.

 

The Sycamores scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Connor McClain singled and moved to third on a single from Manny Estevez.   Kaden Moore drove home McClain on a single to give the Sycamores the 1-0 lead.

 

Andy Young added to the lead in the bottom of the sixth.  Young led off with a solo home run to left center field to increase the Sycamore lead to 2-0.

 

The Braves got on the board in the top of the seventh.  After a walk to Mike Riesner started the inning, he moved to second after Isaac Smith was hit by a pitch.  Spencer Gaa singled to right center to bring home Riesner and cut the Sycamore lead in half. 

 

Bradley took the lead in the top of the eighth.  Paul Solka singled and the was brought home on a Drew Carlile home run to left center and give the Bradley the 3-2 lead.

 

The Braves added to their lead in the top of the ninth inning.  Tyler Leffler led off and was struck out, but a passed ball allowed him to take first.  Leffler came around to score on an error by the ISU right fielder, after Paul Solka belted a shot to the warning track.  Solka scored on a single from Carson Weber to give the Braves the 5-2 lead.

 

At the plate, ISU was led by McClain who finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Young finished 1-for-3 with the big fly, and five Sycamores earned base hits in the contest, with Moore picking up the RBI.

 

On the mound, six Sycamores combined for the nine inning affair.  Jeff Degano started and went 7.0 innings, allowing six hits, one run (earned) walking two and striking out 11 Braves.  Connor Schwienebart  (3-1) suffered the loss, facing three hitters, giving up two hits, and two runs (earned) on the Carlile home run.
