CHICAGO – Indiana State shot a season low from the floor as it couldn't keep up with Loyola in a 61-50 loss on Sunday afternoon in Gentile Arena. Indiana State drops to 15-7 overall and 5-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Senior forward Chelsea Small posted her eighth double-digit point effort of the season with a team-high 14 points but Indiana State shot just 26.4 percent from the floor.
The Ramblers also contained Sycamores' leading scorer Racheal Mahan to just three points and two rebounds. Loyola also posted a single game high 11 blocks and forced 23 ISU turnovers.
Senior forward Jasmine Grier led the Sycamores on the glass with seven boards and chipped in seven points. Redshirt sophomore Kelsey Dirks came off the bench to score six points while redshirt junior Cierra Ceazer and redshirt sophomore Joyea Marshall contributed five points each.
Three different Ramblers notched double figures including redshirt senior Simone Law, who appeared in a game for the first time since November to drop a game-high 17 points.
Neither team scored a field goal until the 16:29 mark when Loyola got on the board first. Grier connected for her first 3-pointer of the afternoon at the 13:32 to mark to give ISU its first lead, 6-4.
The lead wouldn't last long as Loyola went on a 9-0 run in part of a nearly five minute scoring drought by the Sycamores.
Small cut the lead back down to three with a triple of her own, but the Ramblers closed the half on a 7-2 run. Indiana State posted its lowest point total in a half of the season as it trailed 26-16 at the break.
The Sycamores cut the lead down to as few as nine on a jumper by junior guard Alexis Newbolt. But the Ramblers' offense continued to drain shots for a 52.4 clip in the second frame as it cruised to a second-straight victory.
Indiana State returns home to welcome Illinois State and Southern Illinois on Friday and Sunday. Sunday's game versus the Salukis will be the Sycamores annual “Pink Out” game at Hulman Center.
