Box Score CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Offensive woes continue for the Indiana State women's basketball team as it struggled in a 64-29 loss to Northern Iowa on Friday night in McLeod Center. Indiana State falls to 16-9 overall and 6-8 in the Missouri Valley Conference play.
It marked the second fewest points scored in a game in program history and the fewest since a 99-34 loss to Notre Dame in the 2011-12 season.
Redshirt junior Cierra Ceazer led Indiana State with nine points and senior forward Chelsea Small added eight with a team-high three steals. Junior guard Alexis Newbolt led with a team-high three assists.
Small along with senior guard Travecia Franklin and senior forward Racheal Mahan led Indiana State on the glass with five rebounds each.
Indiana State was phased out in every category, shooting just 17.7 percent from the floor and were outrebounded 56-41. In addition, they turned the ball over 16 times and committed 25 fouls.
In a dismal first half for the Sycamores, UNI held an 18 point lead at halftime as ISU hit just two field goals in the final 9:32 of the opening frame.
A slow start turned into a 7-4 lead for Indiana State after redshirt sophomore Cierra Ceazer made one of two free throws with 11:27 to play. But the offense went to sleep after that, going dry until the 7:28 when Small hit a pair at the charity stripe.
ISU posted just 11 points in the first half, its fewest since Nov. 9, 2013 when it posted just 11 against South Alabama.
Nothing got better for the Sycamores in the second half, as it came within its smallest margin of 13 with 14:06 to play. But the Sycamores faced lengthy scoring droughts throughout the entire game, including seven minute plus stretches in the second half.
A 40.7 clip from the Panthers helped outscore the Sycamores, 35-18, in the second half to complete the sweep of the season series
The Sycamores continue play in the state of Iowa as it travels to Drake for a Sunday afternoon matchup. Tip time is set for 5:05 p.m. ET inside Knapp Center.
