GLASCOW, Scotland – Former Indiana State hurdler Greggmar Swift was one of three hurdlers representing Barbados competed at the XX Commonwealth Games at Hamden Park in Glascow, Scotland, and all three reached the finals of the 110 meter hurdles at the 2014 Commonwealth Games with Swift finishing sixth overall Tuesday.
Swift and Barbados teammates Ryan Brathwaite and Shane Brathwaite advanced to the finals with Shane taking the Bronze and Ryan finishing fifth. Just a half-second separated the eight hurdlers in the finals.
Jamaica's Andrew Riley, an NCAA champion and All-American while at Illinois, took the Gold with a winning time of 13.32 seconds as he edged out England's Williams Sharman at the stripe. Sharman took the Silver, his same finish as four years ago in Delhi, with a time of 13.36.
Shane Brathwaite was third (13.49) with Australia's Nicholas Hough running a personal best (13.57) for fourth. Ryan Brathwaite, who won the world title in 2009, was fifth (13.63) with Swift sixth (13.74), Nigeria's Alexander Al-Ameen seventh (13.77 and England's Lawrence Clarke eighth (13. 84).
Swift won the second heat in 13.57 to advance to the finals along with Clarke who was second in 13.63. Ryan Brathwaite won the third heat in 13.48 and edged Clarke who was second in 13.49. Shane Brathwaite was second in the opening heat (13.54) to Riley (13.47).
The former Sycamore had entered the competition winning his first two professional 110 meter hurdle races as he won at the Loughborough LEAP 2014 Meeting, part of the EAP (Europe Athlétisme Promotion) circuit and at the 11th International Meeting EAP in Donnas, Italy.
