GETTING TO KNOW PATRICK MARKARIAN:

1.       What made you choose ISU?

I chose ISU because of the connection all the players have with each other and the straight forwardness from all the coaches about what they expect. Also, my decision was helped when I saw the support that the school has for athletics here. In the end, this felt like a place I could see myself spending the rest of my college years at.

2.       How influential was Coach Natali in your decision to come to ISU?

Coach Natali played a big part in making my decision, because ultimately it was based off if I could see myself playing for him these next two years. When in the end after meeting with him and getting to know about his coaching philosophies it seemed like the place for me.

3.       What leadership qualities will you bring with you to ISU?

I will work hard day in and day out, and try to lead by example and let my actions do the talking.

4.       What do you plan to major in?

I plan on majoring in Secondary Education-Math Teaching.

5.       What are your career plans after football?

I want to be a high school math teacher and football coach.

6.       What about Coach Sanford and the rest of the coaching staff attracted you to this program?

Coach Sanford and the rest of the coaching staff showed a very close, family type atmosphere between each other and a lot of care for each and every one of their players.

7.       What about the program as a whole are you most excited about?

I'm excited about the hard work that has been being put in to turn around this program from last season.

8.       How will your skill set impact this team?

I play physically, technique is a big key to success to me, and will work hard every day.

9.       What excited you the most about playing in the Missouri Valley Conference?

It's exciting knowing that the Missouri Valley Conference is one of the top if not the best conference in the FCS.

10.   Who is the most influential person in your life and why?

My parents are definitely the most influential people in my life, because they are the reason I'm where I am today. They have pushed me from a young age to always do my best and told me if I want to achieve something to go get it and push myself. Also, no matter what they always are looking for what is best for me and what I want.

11.   What athlete do you look up to the most and why?

I look up to Logan Mankins, because he is one of the best at his position in the NFL, he's tough, plays physically, and grew up watching him play in college at Fresno State.

12.   If you had to compare you playing style to one NFL player who would it be and why?

Jeff Saturday, because he is  very intelligent and the offense he's apart of as good as the QB and can lead and control the offensive line.

13.   If you were marooned on a deserted island and were only allowed to bring three items what would they be?

I would bring a hunting knife, pan to cook food on, and a comfortable recliner.

14.   What's one place in the world you have to see in your lifetime?

I want to go explore Europe.
