2014 Sycamore Football Spotlight: Patrick Coyne

 

 

PATRICK COYNE BIOGRAPHY:

 

2012 (at Cincinnati): Made the travel squad as the third-string quarterback but did not see any game action.

 

2011 (at Cincinnati): Redshirted

 

Named a three-star recruit by ESPN.com, Rivals.com, Scout.com, and 247Sports.com ... ranked as the No. 17 dual-threat quarterback nationally and the No. 31 player in the State of Ohio by Rivals.com ... was on the ESPU150 watch list ... ranked No. 4 on OhioVarsity.com's top prep quarterbacks of 2010.

 

Badin High School: Suffered a shoulder injury in Badin's first game of the 2010 season ... saw time at tight end and punter while recovering ... played for the Midwest squad at ESPN's second annual Champion Gridiron Kings event, a national 7-on-7 event that features 65 top-rated players during the summer of 2010 ...threw for 1,642 yards and nine touchdowns while rushing for 491 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior ... earned First-Team all-GCL Central honors ... also named Second-Team All Butler County and Honorable Mention All State ... named Hamilton Journal Player of the week twice and was runner up for the Hamilton Journal Player of the Year honor in 2009 ... also played baseball, basketball, and ran track ... coached by Bill Tenore.

 

Personal: Son of Robin and Jim Coyne ... father played football at West Virginia Tech ... born 3/19/93 ... major undeclared ... also recruited by Michigan, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

 

 

GETTING TO KNOW PATRICK COYNE:

 

 

1.      What made you choose ISU?

 

The coaching staff gave me a second opportunity to do what I love and that is to play the sport of football at the Quarterback position. 

 

2.      How influential was Coach Sheppard in your decision to come to ISU?

 

Coach Shep was a huge deciding factor into my choice. I felt like we were on the same page of where we wanted this offense to go.

 

3.      What leadership qualities will you bring with you to ISU?

 

A knowledge and understanding of the game and what it takes to win. A strong work ethic. Also a strong passion for the game that will rub off on my teammates. 

 

4.      What do you plan to major in?

 

I'm a criminology major.

 

5.      What are your career plans after football?

 

I would like to play football as long as I can and try to play at the next level but after that would like to pursue a career in sales.

 

 6.      What about Coach Sanford and the rest of the coaching staff attracted you to this program?

 

We both as a player and a staff were new the program and both had the same

 

Mindset and goal in mind and that was to win as many games as possible, no matter what.

 

 7.      What about the program as a whole are you most excited about?

 

I'm excited to show people what ISU football is all about, and to show people around the country what the program and coaching staff can do when we work together.

 

8.      How will your skill set impact this team?

 

Will give the offense a chance to move the ball with my arm or my legs and also a knowledge of the game. 

 

9.      What excited you the most about playing in the Missouri Valley Conference?

 

A chance to play in the best FCS conference in the country.

 

10.  Who is the most influential person in your life and why?

 

My father. And this is because he instilled a never give up attitude and also never let someone tell you what you can't do. Also a drive that will not let you give up on your dreams.

 

11.  What athlete do you look up to the most and why?

 

I look up to Russell Wilson and his approach and leadership to the game and also the ability to have his teammates follow him and his words.

 

12.  If you had to compare you playing style to one NFL player who would it be and why?

 

I would compare myself to a past NFL qb and that would be Brett Farve. His relentless effort to make plays continue when everyone else thought they were over

 

13.  If you were marooned on a deserted island and were only allowed to bring three items what would they be?

 

Family, music, and a bunch of my mamas home cooking 

 

14.  What's one place in the world you have to see in your lifetime?

 

Dublin, Ireland

 

15.  Favorite non-football hobby?

 

Fishing

 

16.  Favorite meal?

 

Steak, potatoes and bread.

 

17.  Favorite restaurant?

 

Jeff Ruby's Steak House
