TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State junior linebacker Connor Underwood has been named an Associated Press Second Team All-American for his outstanding performance during the Sycamores' record-breaking 2014 campaign.

Underwood adds to his impressive list of postseason accolades, including a spot on the All-Missouri Valley Football Conference First Team as well as a ninth-place finish in the Buck Buchanan Award balloting. He finished the season with 94 total tackles, including new school records for quarterback sacks with 13.5 and tackles for loss with 25. He also now owns the school record for career quarterback sacks with 28.5 and is just two away from Kyle Mitchell's standard for tackles for a loss with 52.5. Underwood finished 22nd in the MVFC for tackles per game with 6.7, third in sacks, and second in tackles for a loss. His four fumbles forced led the team as well as the league.

He is one of 15 selections from the MVFC to appear on one of three teams picked by the Associated Press. The league had nine first team selections, three on the second team and three more on third team.

Indiana State finished the 2014 campaign with a MVFC-era record eight wins, including its first berth in the FCS Playoffs since 1984. The Sycamores earned a 36-16 victory at Eastern Kentucky for the program's first playoff win since 1983. Indiana State was ranked in the final ten national polls with the final poll set to be released after the national championship game in early January.
