MOSCOW - After an incredible season of comeptition, both Greggmar Swift and Kylie Hutson ran out of steam at the IAAF World Track and Field Champions in Moscow, Russia.
The Indiana State Junior, Swift placed seventh in his heat of the 110 meter high hurdles in a time of 13.79 seconds. Swift's heat was by far the fastest of the four preliminary heats, won by David Oliver of the United States in a time of 13.05 seconds.
The top three finishers, plus the next four fastest times advanced to tomorrow's semi-final round.
Swift ended up 26th overall in the World Championships. Swift enjoyed a season which saw him become an All-American both indoors and outdoors, including a fourth place finish indoors. Swift placed second overall at the Barbados National Championships to qualify for the World Championships. Swift also ran his lifetime best time of 13.48 in Bridgeton. Swift also competed at the World University Games.
Also competing this morning in Moscow was former Sycamore pole vaulter Kylie Hutson.
Hutson was unable to clear the opening height of 14' 1 1/4" (4.30 meters) and was eliminated in the preliminary round. Her flight was won by Germany's Silke Spielgelburg and Russian Elena Isinbaeva at 14'11 1/4" (4.55 meters).
Hutson ended what was a fantastic season that included a second place finish at the Indoor US championships with a clearance of 15'7" (4.75 meters). Hutson had competed in Europe over the summer and won the pole vaut competition at the Stabhochsprung Meeting in Rottach, Germany, clearing 15'3 3/4" (4.67 meters). Hutson cleared a personal outdoor best in winning the Sycamore Open Pole Vault Invitational with a clearence of 15'5" (4.70 meters).
