TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State head basketball coach Greg Lansing announced today (April 2) that RJ Mahurin has elected to transfer to Indiana Wesleyan for his senior season. Mahurin will join his younger brother, Lane, who will be an incoming freshman for the Wildcats in 2013-14.

“First and foremost, RJ is a really good person, a good teammate and has been a good player for Indiana State,” Lansing commented. “He played an important role in our success. Kids transfer and leave schools for a lot of reasons. Granted the timing isn't very good for Indiana State Basketball but RJ is making a decision for the right reasons, for he and his family. He wants to play with his brother, Lane, for his last year of eligibility. I can certainly respect that. This has been a difficult decision for RJ. I love RJ, as does the coaching staff and his teammates. We wish him the very best and thank him for all that he has helped us accomplish.”

Mahurin is coming off his best season as a Sycamore as he averaged 10.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 33 contests, starting 25. He hit 42 3-pointers during the 2012-13 campaign, which was the highest total on the team. In three seasons with the Sycamores, Mahurin averaged 7.2 points and 2.7 rebounds. He hit 100 3-pointers over his career, which ranks tied for 15th-best in the history of the program.

The following is a statement from Mahurin regarding his decision to transfer to Indiana Wesleyan for his senior season:

After weeks of internal struggle I have decided to announce today that I plan to forgo my senior year of eligibility at Indiana State University and transfer to Indiana Wesleyan University so that I can play a season of basketball with my brother, Lane.

This decision was not easy. Being a Sycamore has been my dream throughout childhood. However, this is my brother, and we never thought we'd get such an opportunity.

I want to thank Indiana State University and especially coaches Greg Lansing, Lou Gudino, David Ragland, Marcus Belcher and Kevin McKenna for the opportunities and experiences they've given me. Coach Lansing is a fantastic coach and an even better person. The coaching staff has made me a better player and helped me grow into an adult. I'll truly miss them along with all of my teammates.

I believe the ISU basketball program has turned the corner and will do nothing but get better. I know I'll be a Sycamore fan for life.

Thank You,
RJ Mahurin
