TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State baseball team saw their five-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday, as the visiting SIU Edwardsville Cougars scored three two-out runs over the sixth and seventh innings to claim a 6-3 victory on Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium.

Indiana State drops to 17-14 on the season while SIU Edwardsville improves to 9-22.

The Sycamores scored first on Wednesday, coming on the first of three hits of the game for senior Robby Ort. Redshirt senior Koby Kraemer singled with two outs in the opening inning, scoring on a double into the left-center by Ort for 1-0 ISU lead.

The Cougars came back for three runs in the top of the second inning, including a solo home run by Drew Johnson and a two-out two-run single by James Vazquez.

Ort drove in one run in each of his next two trips to the plate, scoring junior Cody Zimmerman with a one-out single to center in the third and plating Kraemer on a two-out double to right-center in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3.

SIUE rallied for three runs with two outs over the next two innings, however, taking the lead on a RBI single to left-center by Jacob Stewart in the sixth and adding two insurance runs on a two-run home run by Skyler Geissinger in the seventh.

Ort led the Sycamores on Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs batted in. Kraemer extended his team-leading hitting streak to eight games on a single in the first inning and scored two runs. Senior Jordan Pearson also went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Seven pitchers took the mound for Indiana State in the game with redshirt sophomore Greg Kuhlman (1-1) taking the loss.

Indiana State begins a seven-game road swing this weekend, traveling to Normal, Ill., for a three-game set with the Illinois State Redbirds. First pitch of Friday's game has been moved up to 4:00 p.m. (ET), 3:00 p.m. locally in Illinois and can be heard live on GoSycamores.com due to scheduling conflicts on WPRS AM 1440.
