ST. LOUIS – Sophomore Landon Curry led the Indiana State baseball team with four runs scored during their series victory inside the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis and has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office.
The Uniondale, Ind., native and Norwell High School product scored both of Indiana State's runs in their 2-1 victory over the Golden Gophers on Friday night, including the game-winning run following a throwing error after Curry stole third base. The ISU sophomore added a two-run double in the ninth inning of the rubber match on Sunday, capping a 9-4 Indiana State victory to clinch the series.
For the week, Curry also drove in three runs and stole two bases. Heading into action on Wednesday, the ISU centerfielder leads the conference with nine stolen bases. In the classroom, Curry carries a 3.81 GPA while majoring in Business.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Curry and the Sycamores open Missouri Valley Conference play this weekend, hosting Southern Illinois on Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium on Friday, March 22 through Sunday, March 24.
