ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Felisha Johnson and Brandon Pounds went against the best in the nation as they competed at the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center and both represented Indiana State well.

Johnson finished fourth in the women's weight throw with her best throw coming on her fifth attempt with a distance of 73-feet-0.75-inches (22.27 meters). It is the fifth time this season that Johnson has had a throw over 70-feet.

Gwen Berry (Nike/NYAC) won the Indoor title with a season best throw of 81-feet-0.5-inches (24.70 meters) with Amber Campbell (Nike) going 77-feet-8.25-inches (23.68 meters) for second. Campbell was the defending champion and set the meet record a year ago with a throw of 81-feet-3.25-inches (24.78 meters). Jeneva McCall (NYAC) was third with a distance of 74-feet-2.5-inches (22.62 meters).

Pounds surpassed the 70-foot mark for the second time this season and finished fifth with a distance of 70-feet-1.75-inches (21.18 meters).

Thomas Freeman (Nike/NYAC) entered the meet as the top ranked men's weight thrower and took home the 2013 title with a season best throw of 77-feet-1.75-inches (23.51 meters). Defending champion A.G. Kruger (Nike) was second at 76-feet-7.25-inches (23.37 meters) with Colin Dunbar (unattached) third with a distance of 72-feet-10-inches (22.20 meters). Joe Frye (Music City Mavericks) was fourth at 70-feet-9-inches (21.56 meters).

Kylie Hutson (Nike), an NCAA Champion and All-American at Indiana State and the 2011 USA Outdoor Champion, cleared a career best 15-feet-7-inches (4.75 meters) on her third attempt to remain in the chase for the USA Indoor title but failed on three attempts at 15-feet-9-inches (4.80 meters).

Reigning Olympic gold medalist and American record holder Jenn Suhr successfully defended her USA Indoor title by clearing 16-feet-5.5-inches (5.02 meters) on her first attempt to set a new World, American, and meet record. Suhr now has seven Indoor titles to her name and set the previous American record in Albuquerque at the USA Indoor Championships in 2011 when she cleared 16-feet (4.88 meters).

Russian Yelena Isinbayeva had the previous world record of 16-feet-5.25-inches (5.01 meters) set in 2012.

Former Sycamore Drake Sterling (Indiana Invaders) ran 1:58.50 in the men's 800 meter race but failed to advance to Sunday's finals.
