MINNEAPOLIS -
The Minnesota Golden Gophers evened up their series with the Indiana State
baseball team on Saturday, scoring twice in the third inning and once in the
seventh to earn a 3-0 shutout victory inside the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
Minnesota's Ben Meyer threw the complete game shutout, fanning 11 ISU batters
while allowing five hits and no walks. Senior Devin Moore started for Indiana
State and took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings with
six strikeouts. Junior Kurt Kudrecki pitched the final two innings for ISU, allowing
one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
The Golden Gophers (12-7) got their first baserunner against Moore in the third
inning, coming on a one-out single by Bobby Juan. Mark Tatera, Andy Henkemeyer
and Troy Larson followed with three consecutive singles, Juan scoring on
Henkemeyer's single to left. UM went in front 2-0 following a groundout by Matt
Halloran. Minnesota tacked on a run in the seventh inning as Tatera plated Ryan
Abrahamson with a double into the gap in right-center.
Meyer pitched outstanding on Saturday, allowing ISU (6-7) to put a runner on
second base just two times and never faced more than five hitters in a single
inning. Freshman Taylor Steen led the Sycamore batters, going 2-for-3 at the
plate for his first career hits at Indiana State.
