HUNTSVILLE,
Ala.
- The Indiana State baseball team split their doubleheader with Morehead State
on Sunday at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville, Ala., falling 6-5 in game one
before rallying for a 7-5 victory in game two.
Indiana State finishes the 2013 Bulldog Classic with an even 2-2 record after
the doubleheader, the first time since the 2010 season that the Sycamores have
not been swept on their opening weekend of play.
Morehead State (3-1) earned their third straight win in the tournament in game
one, posting a 6-5 win over the Sycamores.
Indiana State rallied in the eighth inning of game two, scoring five runs to
turn a 4-2 deficit into a 7-4 lead heading into the ninth. Junior Owen Conway
got the inning going for the Sycamores, hitting his first career home run to
left field to lead off the frame. Three batters later, junior Robby Ort gave
the Sycamores the lead, driving pitch into the left-center field gap to put ISU
in front 5-4. A pair of fielding miscues by the Eagles assisted the Sycamores
in padding their lead as Indiana State tacked on two more runs to take a 7-4
advantage.
Junior Josh Dove (1-0) earned the win in relief, returning to the mound after
entering in the eighth inning to close out the victory in the ninth with the
go-ahead run at the plate.
Indiana State returns to the state of Alabama next weekend, playing three games
hosted by Auburn University. The Sycamores face College of Charleston on
Friday, Middle Tennessee State on Saturday and Auburn on Sunday. All three
games can be heard live for free over the Internet on GoSycamores.com.
