TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State came within a whisker of downing the Missouri Valley Conference's second place team on Senior Day in front of 7,911 fans inside Hulman Center, but the Sycamores fell narrowly to Creighton, 61-60.

The regular season ends with Indiana State owning a 17-13 record and an 8-10 ledger in MVC contests while Creighton finished at 25-5, 14-4 MVC.

The Sycamores are the No. 8 seed at the State Farm MVC Tournament and will take on the No. 9 seed Southern Illinois in the opening round. Tip-off is slated for 7:05 p.m. (ET) and will be televised live on MVC TV.

Myles Walker paced the Sycamores with 15 points while Carl Richard had 14. Jake Odum finished the game with 10 points.

Overall, the Sycamores held the Jays to just 38.6 percent shooting, as they hit 22-of-37 attempts and were just 3-of-14 from 3-point range. ISU countered with a 21-of-56 effort from the field (37.5 percent) and were 5-of-12 from 3-point range. The two teams were deadlocked at 37 rebounds each, including nine offensive boards a piece.

Creighton led by as many as seven points in the first half, taking a 28-21 advantage on a jumper by Antoine Young with 1:24 left before the half. The Sycamores scored five consecutive points in the final minuite, first off a jumper from Richard and then a 3-pointer by Jordan Printy with 33 seconds left as Creighton took a slim 28-26 lead into the half.

Odum drilled a jumper on the Sycamores' second possession of the second half to knot the game at 28. After Young hit 1-of-2 free throws, then Richard drilled a jumper in the paint to give the Sycamores a 30-29 advantage.

The 'Jays posted four in a row before Lathan hit a jumper to make it 33-32 just four minutes in.

Creighton owned a 49-44 advantage with 8:59 to go, before Walker hit back-to-back jumpers to make it 49-48 and Young again scored to run the lead out to 51-48. Richard was open off the Printy pass on the next possession to knot the score at 51.

Ethan Wragge connected on a trey with 5:34 to go to give the Jays the lead, but Printy hit a pair of free throws at the 5:16 mark to get the Sycamores within 54-53.

A shot by Richard gave the Sycamores a 55-54 lead with 3:51 to go and then a conventional 3-point play from Lathan with 3:09 remaining staked ISU to a 58-54 lead.

The Sycamores played stellar defense after the Lathan free throw, forcing the 'Jays to settle for a contested 3-pointer from Johenns Manigat which fell to push Creighton within a point of ISU at 58-57 with 2:42 remaining. Young's jumper with 1:42 left put the 'Jays ahead 59-58.

After a missed fastbreak opportunity for ISU, Young was fouled with 32 seconds left and hit a pair of free throws to make it 61-58 in favor of the Jays as they went on a 7-0 run after ISU took the four point lead.

Odum connected on a lay-up with 16 seconds left to get ISU within 61-60 before Young missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity with 15 seconds to go. The Sycamores took the ball down the court as time ticked off the clock, but a last second shot by Lathan would not fall and Creighton escaped with a hard fought 61-60 victory.

The 'Jays put two players in double figures scoring, each of over 20 points at Doug McDermott overcame early foul trouble for a 22 point showing and Young finished with 21.
