TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State senior linebacker Aaron Archie has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player Of The Week for his efforts in the Sycamores' 23-7 road victory over Western Illinois on October 20.
This marks the second consecutive week that a Sycamore has been named the MVFC Defensive Player Of The Week after Johnny Towalid captured the same honor last week after the victory at North Dakota State.
Archie led a spectacular defensive effort for Indiana State that kept Western Illinois off balance for the entire contest. He posted a team-high 11 tackles, including one for a loss with a quarterback hurry as the Sycamores broke a string of seven road losses at Western Illinois with a 23-7 victory over the Leathernecks.
Archie leads the MVFC in tackles per game and has recorded double digit tackles in all eight games this season. Three of Archie's tackles were solos as the Sycamore defense allowed just five first downs to Western Illinois in the contest and held them to just 144 yards of total offense.
Indiana State is currently in a first place tie with Southern Illinois at 4-1 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference standings while the Sycamores and Salukis hold a one half game lead over North Dakota State and South Dakota State, who are 3-1.
The Sycamores return to action against MVFC newcomer South Dakota on Saturday, October 27 at 2:05 p.m. (ET) inside Memorial Stadium. The game will be nationally-televised on ESPN 3.
