Basketball December 31, 2011 ISU Athletics Odum's Career High 24 Points Leads ISU Past Bradley Blaine Kinsey GoSycamores.com Sophomore guard Jake Odum led the Indiana State men's basketball team (10-3, 1-1 MVC) past the Braves of Bradley (5-9, 0-2 MVC) with a career high 24 points including 15 in the second half. Senior center Myles Walker got the game started for the Sycamores with a quick bucket and Printy came right back with a 3-pointer to give ISU a 5-0 lead. Bradley answered and tied the game at nine with 12 minutes remaining in the first half. The Braves then pulled with 8 minutes to go and held that lead until there were six seconds left on the clock when Odum hit a pull-up 3-pointer to tie the game at 35 heading into the locker room. Coming out of the locker room the Braves retook the lead off a quick layup but the Sycamores did not let the game get away and tied five more times before they took the lead for good with 15:27 remaining in regulation off a layup by Odum. The Sycamores jumped out to their largest lead of the game at 11 with 2:57 to go off a pair of free throws by Odum. The Sycamore defense held tough and went on to get their first Missouri Valley Conference win of the season in their MVC home opener by a final score of 77-66. Odum led the team with a career and game high 24 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Walker and senior forward Carl Richard also reached double figures for ISU. Walker had 16 points and nine rebounds while Richard added 13 points and eight rebounds. As a team the 77 points was the second highest point total the Sycamores have scored this season. The Sycamores will return to action on Jan. 4 at Northern Iowa.
