BOISE, Idaho -- Indiana State fell to Boise State 74-65 in the Missouri Valley/Mountain West Challenge Series at the Taco Bell Arena.
The Sycamores fall to 6-2 on the season while Boise State improved to 6-1. ISU dropped a true road game for the first time in five tries, dating back to last season.
Dwayne Lathan led ISU with 17 points off the bench. Carl Richard had 11 and Myles Walker scored 10 points.
Boise State hit 51.8 percent of their shots (29-of-56 attempts) and outrebounded the Sycamores 33-23.
Indiana State scored first against Boise State for a 2-0 lead, although the Sycamores' first score of the game came more than three minutes in. It came in the form of a Myles Walker lay-up.
The first half had spurts by each team as the Sycamores raced out to a 6-0 lead, them saw an 8-0 run by Boise State give them a 20-13 lead with 9:44 left in the opening stanza.
The Sycamores responded with an 11-0 run, capped off by a 3-pointer by Justin Gant with 5:23 on the clock as ISU ran out to a 24-20 advantage. On cue, Boise State went on a 8-0 run for the 28-24 lead, before RJ Mahurin hit 1-of-2 free throws with 1:43 on the clock to cut the Bronco cushion down to 28-25.
Boise State scored with 1:23 left in the half on a bucket by Kenny Buckner, the the Sycamores got a score from Mahurin on a jumper in the left corner, a free throw by Lathan with 40 seconds left and then a lay-up by Lathan with two seconds remaining as the two teams went into the half tied at 30.
It marked the first time all season that Indiana State has not led at the half. Lathan led the team with seven points.
The second half began again with a lay-up by Walker, as took a 45-39 lead but less than two minutes later he was on the bench as he had four fouls with 18:10 left in the game.
The Broncos used a pair of large runs to build their lead out to as many as 14 points at 57-43 with 7:54 remaining. ISU scored eight points in a row, capped by a conventional 3-point play by Jake Odum at the 6:20 mark to cut the BSU lead down to 57-51.
The Sycamores got closest to the Broncos in the second half when they cut the BSU lead down to 61-57 on a 3-pointer by Carl Richard.
Boise State was led by Anthony Drmic and Kenny Buckner with 14 points.
Indiana State returns to action on Saturday, December 10 when the Sycamores host Maryville (Mo.). Tip-off is set for 1:05 p.m. (ET).
