- Unfortunately, this was an unpleasant visit for the Sycamores in a game where
they never led despite Shannon Thomas' 22nd career double- double
with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Natasha Zurek's career high of 13 points. They
fell to the Eastern Illinois Panthers by a score of 75- 60 in front of 857
spectators.
The battle of Blue and White between two schools that are 50 miles apart occurred
for the 54th time on a cool Saturday evening. This was the first
road game of the Sycamore's four road game stretch.
They were only down 39-34 at the end of the first half with 32.1% shooting from the field and made 76.5% of
free throws. Also, EIU was 20% beyond the three point line while ISU was 18.8% in the first half.
Four players in the starting lineup were in double figures. Those included
Brittany Schoen with 14 points, Natasha Zurek and Anna Munn with 13 points
each, and Shannon Thomas with 10 points.
The Sycamores were out rebounded 44-33 by the Panthers and were outshot 43.8%
to 31% from the field. They also had 16 turnovers to the Panther's 17 and shot
24.1% from three point range while the Panthers only made 12.5% of their
three point shots.
Eastern Illinois was led by Mariah King and Ta'Kenya Nixon with 20 points each
and Sydney Mitchell with 14 points. Also, Ta' Kenya Nixon was the only Panther
with a double- double of 20 points and 10 rebounds.
The Indiana State Sycamores, who are now 5-4 on the season, will continue their
four road game stretch by traveling to Ann Arbor, MI to take on the Michigan
Wolverines on Saturday Dec. 17 at 7:00 pm Est. The Eastern Illinois Panthers,
who are now 6-2 on the season.
