TERRE HAUTE, Ind.— First year head softball coach Shane Bouman has signed six student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent this week to compete for the Sycamores for the Fall 2012 season. New signees for the Sycamores include: Morgan Allee, Meredith Henriksen, Kelsey Montgomery, Sarah Lawrence, Abbie Malchow, and Paige Schreiner.

 


 

Morgan Allee, a two sport athlete in high school before attending Iowa Central Community College last season. While at Iowa Central Allee was named NJCAA D2 First Team All-American, NFCA First Team All-American, First Team All-Region XI, All-Midwest Region NFCA and the Region XI Defensive Player of the Year. Allee also received recognition for her efforts in the classroom as she was named First Team Academic All-Region XI. Last season she had the second highest batting average in the nation with .524, broke Iowa Central's single-season batting average record by 52 points and had 77 hits, 63 runs, 19 doubles, four triples, six home runs and stole 47 of 48 bases. Her parents are Doug and Krista King and has two siblings, Cassie Allee and Trey King.

Meredith Henriksen will come to Indiana State as a five-year letter winner for Des Moines East High School in Des Moines, Iowa. Henriksen was the starting catcher for Des Moines East in 2010 when they were Runner-up in the state tournament and in 2011 when they won the Iowa High School State Championship. Her batting average during her junior season was .350 with 31 RBIs in 44 games. Henriksen was named Honorable Mention All-Conference in 2010 and First Team All-Conference in 2011.  Her parents are Suzette and Tom Henriksen and has five siblings, Jordan, Samantha, Natalie, Sherika, and Cameron. – Coach Bouman on Henriksen 


-"Mere is a hard-nosed, coachable catcher that comes to Indiana State after an extremely successful high school career.  We feel she's the most athletic catcher in the state of Iowa, bringing leadership and consistency behind the plate."

 

 


 

Kelsey Montgomery joins Sycamore Softball as a four-year starter at Queen Creek High School in AZ. Montgomery has already been a three-time All-Regionand honorable mention All-State with her senior season yet to come. Last season, as a junior, she led her team in hitting and finished in the top 15 in the state of AZ with an average of .574 compiling 62 hits in 31 games and 19 stolen bases. Kelsey has also spent the last three seasons as a member of the 18U AZ Hotshot Gold-Householder club ball team as their leadoff hitter and outfielder. As a sophomore, she was a recipient of the "Victory of Honor Award", given to those that display leadership, respect, and trust by the teacher and coaching staff. Her parents are Martha and Dan Montgomery and has four brothers and sisters.  


–Coach Bouman on Montgomery -"Kelsey is a tough, speedy slapper who will always put pressure on the defensive.  She brings experience from competing against the nation's best and fits into our aggressive style of softball, which will be fun to watch."

 

 


 

Sarah Lawrence will wear the blue and white after a four-year softball letter winning career at Zionsville High School in Indiana.  In 2009 she was a recipient of theSportsmanship award and in 2011 was the Mental Attitude award recipient. She was named All-North Honorable Mention, a three -time All-Crossroads Conference andtwo-time All-North selection honoree with her senior season yet ahead of her.  Lawrence also played four years with the Indiana Magic Gold- Clay travel program. Lawrence carries a 3.7 grade point average. Her parents are Michael Lawrence and Becky LaFlame and has five siblings, Nathan, Ella, and Noah Lawrence and Aiden and Aaren LaFlamme.

Abbie Malchow is a two-sport athlete at Rochester High School in Indiana, where she is a standout in basketball and softball. Malchow has been named Academic All-Conference, Team CaptainMVP, First Team All-Conference and All-District already with her senior year yet to play As a teammate of Lawrence she has excelled with the Indiana Magic Gold-Clay travel teamMalchow is a member of Varsity Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, Peers Educating Peers and Captain's Table. Her parents are Robert and Wendy Malchow and she has a younger sister, Rebecca. 


– Coach Bouman on Malchow - - "As a coach's daughter, Abbie possesses the drive and work ethic that it takes to succeed at the Division I level.  She has a contagious, upbeat personality built from strong family values that you want in a championship program." 

 

 

Paige Schreiner is a three-sport athlete and joins the Sycamore Program as a four -year starter in softball at Ottumwa High School in Ottumwa, Iowa. During her junior season she boasted a .424 batting average and collected 56 hits while leading her team in RBI (54), HR (6), and doubles (13). She has been a varsity stater at shortstop for her entire high school career as well as being the lead-off hitter. She was named First Team All-Conference CIML Metro, was a member of the 4A All-District Team, and 4A First Team All-State. Schreiner was named Player of the Game at the 2011 18U Fast Nationals.  Schreiner is also first in CIML conference for RBI's and fourth in runs scored, doubles and home runs. Schreiner also carries a 3.8 grade point average entering her senior year and plans to major in Biology/Medical/Radiology. Her parents are Christy Schreiner and Randy Schreiner and she has a younger sister Kaleigh.


 – Coach Bouman on Schreiner - "Paige is a fantastic, multi-sport athlete that will bring a high level of competitiveness and intensity to our program.  She can play a number of positions defensively, while bringing pop in her bat at the plate.  Paige is driven both academically and athletically, she will make an immediate impact on the Sycamore program."
