ST. LOUIS - Indiana State senior safety Alex Sewall has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week this evening (Oct. 2) by the league office.

Sewall led the Sycamore defensive attack with 11 total tackles, including five solo stops as ISU won at South Dakota State for the first time by the score of 38-28. Sewall had one sack for a loss of four yards and recovered a key fumble early in the game which set up the Sycamores' first score. He also added one pass breakup. Sewall also had two near forced fumbles in the game but both times the SDSU ball carries were ruled down by contact.

Joining Sewall this week as league honorees were Terriun Crump of Western Illinois as the MVFC Offensive Player Of The Week; Matt Veldman of North Dakota State at the MVFC Special Teams Player Of The Week and Josh Hudson of Western Illinois as the MVFC Newcomer Of The Week.

The nationally-ranked Sycamores will be looking for consecutive road victories in league play on back-to-back weekends for the first time since 1996 when ISU travels to No. 2 Northern Iowa on Saturday, October 8. Kick-off from the UNI-Dome is set for 5:05 p.m. (ET) and the game will televised on the internet world-wide on GoSycamores.com.
