EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Indiana State women's basketball team picked up their first road victory of the season on Thursday night, as the Sycamores topped the host Evansville Purple Aces, 75-67, in front of 568 fans inside Roberts Stadium. ISU is now 10-9 on the season and an even 4-4 in Missouri Valley Conference play, while UE falls to 7-12 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

The Sycamores rode a late-game stretch of tough defense to their road win, holding the Purple Aces without a field goal from 4:54 mark of the second half until just 13 seconds remained in the game.

The Purple Aces stormed out of the gates on Thursday, scoring the game's first eight points over the opening three minutes of action, capping their run with a 3-pointer from Stephanie Bamberger with 17:15 left in the first half.

ISU began to chip away at the lead from there, using a 7-2 run of their own to pull within three points, at 10-7 with 13:51 remaining in the half on a 3-pointer from freshman Anna Munn.

The Sycamores took their first lead of the game at the 10:59 mark of the opening half on a fastbreak jumper from sophomore Taylor Whitley. ISU's largest lead of the back-and-forth first half came when ISU finished off an 8-1 run late in the half on a jumper by junior Deja Mattox from a four-point lead, at 30-26.

Indiana State took a two-point lead into the locker room, at 33-31, thanks to a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded by junior Brittany Schoen. ISU shot 44.4% in the first half, knocking down 12-of-27 from the field, including 3-of-9 from beyond the arc. Junior Shannon Thomas led ISU in the first half, totaling 10 points while Schoen and Whitley both added six.

ISU and UE traded leads three times over the first two minutes of the second half, before ISU took the lead at the 17:43 mark of the second half on a layup by Whitley. After another basket by Whitley, the Purple Aces tied the score for the final time on a three from Katie Ellerson with 16:41 to play, but Mattox responded with a trey of her own just 25 seconds later to give ISU the lead for good.

The lead was in no way secure from that point forward, as ISU's advantage never got above five points until under one minute remained in the game. After UE had cut the ISU lead to a single point with 4:13 remaining, a pair of free-throws from senior Kelsie Cooley with 3:19 to go and a jumper off the glass from redshirt freshman Andrea Rademacher with 2:38 left pushed ISU back in front by five, at 64-59.

Munn stepped up big for the Sycamores as the game clock got close to just one minute remaining. The freshman from Indianapolis knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:09 remaining off an in-bounds play with just four seconds left on the shot clock to push ISU's lead back to five points and then proceeded to hit all six of her free-throws attempts in the final minute of action.

For the game, ISU put five scorers into double figures, led by Thomas' 17. Whitley (16), Munn (14), Mattox (11) and Schoen (11) also finished in double-digits for the Sycamores. Schoen grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in the contest, while Whitley added six assists and three steals.

Meagan Collins led the Purple Aces, with 15 points, while Briyana Blair finished with near triple-double status, going for 14 points, nine assists and eight boards.

The Sycamores continue their road swing on Saturday when they head to Southern Illinois. ISU and SIU tip at 3:05 p.m. (ET).
