ST. LOUIS ? Indiana State senior Kylie Hutson has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, it was today by the league office. This is the second straight week that Hutson has been recognized by the Valley.
Hutson moved up to second in the nation and improved her Missouri Valley Conference leading height by winning the pole vault competition in the final home meet of her career Saturday during the Pacesetter Invitational. Despite a steady drizzle, Hutson cleared 14'-3.25” (4.35m) to win the event.
The Sycamore senior defeated former Notre Dame vaulter Mary Saxer for the second straight week and former Indiana athlete Vera Neuenswander, who Hutson outjumped to win the 2009 NCAA Outdoor title. Hutson ranks second in the nation, is the top pole vaulter in the East, and leads the MVC.
Indiana State will participate in the Billy Hayes Invitational on Friday at Indiana University, the final full-team event for the outdoor season. This is also the final meet before the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships which will be held at Illinois State University May 14-16.
