Indiana State Women's Track Team Climbs To 13th In National Rankings

TERRE HAUTE, IND.  ? The Indiana State women's track & field team marked their eighth straight week of being ranked in the top 25 of the nation as they moved up to their highest ranking of the season, coming in at 13th in the poll released today by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Sycamores were 16th a week ago.

 

Indiana State is the top school from the Missouri Valley Conference in the rankings as they moved up three spots to 13th in the rankings. Southern Illinois dropped four spots into 16th this week while Indiana dropped three spots to 23rd, Purdue fell 11 spots to 68th, and Notre Dame dropped seven spots to 77th.

 

The Sycamore women remained fifth in the Great Lakes Region rankings, a position they have held in five of the six regional rankings. The Sycamores were fourth in the second week of the regional poll. The top nine teams in the Great Lakes region were unchanged from a week ago with Indiana on top followed by Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana State, Purdue, Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Kent State. Western Michigan moved up five spots into the 10th position in this week's rankings.

 

The Indiana State men's team dropped one spot in the national poll this week as they fell to 68th in the USTFCCCA poll. Southern Illinois moved up 38 spots to become the top Missouri Valley School in the rankings as they improved to 63rd nationally. Indiana State is next at 68th with Wichita State falling seven spots to 74th. The Indiana Hoosiers are ranked 12th this week with Purdue 61st, Butler 70th, and Notre Dame 86th.

 

The Sycamore men are 11th for the fourth straight week in the Great Lakes Region rankings after being ranked 10th in the first two polls. The top four spots remained the same with Wisconsin on top followed by Ohio State, Indiana, and Purdue. Akron moved up one to fifth with Michigan dropping one to sixth, Eastern Michigan up one to seventh, Notre Dame up one to eighth, Michigan State dropped two to ninth, and Kent State remained 10th.

 

Regional team rankings are calculated based on individual athlete's best performances of the season and their individual regional rankings.
