TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - It's beginning to become routine for the Indiana State University baseball team. The Sycamores once again fell into an early deficit, only to chip away at the lead, complete the comeback and win by a single run, defeating the visiting Austin Peay State University Governors by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday at Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium in front of 276 fans.

This is 11th time that the Sycamores have allowed the opposition to score first and the ninth game that has been decided by a single run this season for ISU. Indiana State has seen success during these situations, however, improving to 7-4 when the opponent scores first and 7-2, including six straight wins, when the game is decided by one run.

Austin Peay (10-9) jumped out early on Tuesday, plating three first inning runs off of ISU starter JT Stenftenagel.

Indiana State (13-5) would cut the APSU lead to two runs with a single run in the bottom of the second inning. Senior Tyler Graham led off the inning with a single to center field and would move to second on a groundout by junior Phil Liniger before stealing third base. Freshman Robby Ort sent his current hitting streak to nine games with an RBI single through the right side of the infield to plate Graham.

ISU tallied another run in the fourth to cut the Governor's lead to one run, at 3-2. With one out, Ort was hit by a pitch and would move to third base on a single to right-center field by senior Grant Grgurich. Junior Levi Ferguson brought Ort home when he dropped a bunt down the third base line for an RBI single.

Austin Peay stretched its lead back to three in the top of the fifth with a pair runs before ISU took the lead for good with four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.

Sophomore Kyle Burnam led off the inning with a single to right field and would be pushed to third base when senior Luke Fieser and Graham drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Liniger tallied the first RBI of the inning when he dropped a hit just over the shortstop's head for a single to center to score Burnam. Ort tied the game at 5-5 with a two-RBI single through the left side of the infield to plate both Fieser and Graham. After a pair of flyouts, senior Ben Ferrell put ISU in front with a two-out RBI single to right-center field to plate Liniger and put ISU up 6-5.

Freshman Tyler Browning shut down the last APSU rally of the game, forcing a lineout to Ferguson in right field with runners on the corners in the bottom of the eighth to keep the score at 6-5. Browning came back out in the ninth to complete the four-out save, his fourth save this season.

The Sycamores sent nine different pitchers to the mound during the game on Tuesday, with junior Jacob Petricka (3-3) picking up the victory.

At the plate, Ort led all batters with three RBI on the day, while Ort, Ferrell and Burnam all picked up a pair of hits.

The Sycamores will ride their six-game win streak into Friday's Missouri Valley Conference opener with Illinois State. The Sycamores and Redbirds will begin their series on Friday with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m. at Bob Warn Field.
