Behind an 18-point effort by junior guard Dwayne Lathan the Sycamore men's basketball team routed the visiting Little Giants of Wabash College 71-60 in the Sycamores final exhibition game of the season.
Wabash got the game started with a bucket and led by three
just two minutes into the game.
The Sycamore offense got going, however, and pulled out to a
seven-point lead. At halftime, the Sycamores held a 41-33 lead.
Both teams shot the ball very well in the first half with
the Sycamores shooting 54 percent from the floor while the Little Giants shot
50 percent.
In the second half, the defense of both teams came out much
more aggressive made it difficult for either team to score.
The Sycamore offense broke through, however, and extended
their lead to as much as 19 with just over 8 minutes remaining in the game.
The Little Giants would not go down without a fight, though
as they stormed back and cut the Sycamore lead to nine with just under four
minutes remaining in regulation.
The Sycamore defense held on down the stretch and extended
their lead to 11 en route to a 71-60 win.
11 of the 12 Sycamore players who played in the contest were
also able to tally points for the Sycamores. As a team the Sycamores shot 42
percent from the field.
Lathan led the team with 18 points, five rebounds, four
assists and four steals.
Senior guard Jordan Printy also reached double figures for
the Sycamores with 11 points, three rebounds and two assists.
As a team the Sycamores forced 21 turnovers and scored 27
points off turnovers while allowing Wabash to score just seven points off
turnovers.
The Sycamores will open up the regular season Friday, Nov.
12 at the Loyola Classic against Texas-Pan American. The Sycamores will then
play their home opener Saturday, Nov. 27 against Buffalo.
