Indiana State's Carl Richard scored first in the contest with his second 3-pointer of the season as the Sycamores grabbed a 3-0 lead just 38 seconds into the contest. ISU would not score again until a free throw by Dwayne Lathan with 16:36 left in the opening half, but still held a 4-2 lead as Ball State was able to only muster one field goal over the first four minutes of the contest.
Lathan hit a pair of 3-pointers in the game's first eight minutes as ISU took a 14-8 lead on his second triple with 12:15 left before the half. The Sycamores went scoreless over the next four minutes, a drought which was broken by a lay-up from Carl Richard with 8:02 left on the clock which staked 16-13 lead.
Richard would take on another jumper to make it 18-13 on the Sycamores' next possession. After BSU cut the lead down to 18-17, the Sycamores scored the games' next seven points over a two minute stretch to take a 25-17 lead with 3:52 left on two free throws by Isiah Martin, followed by a traditional 3-point play from Martin and lay-up by Richard.
BSU answered with a 10-2 spurt of their own as the first half ticked under a minute as the score was knotted at 27 on a Jesse Berry putback with 56 seconds left. Jake Kelly drilled a pair of free throws with 39 seconds on the clock for a 29-27 lead and the game became tied at 29 with four seconds remaining on a second chance bucket from Matt Kamieniecki.
ISU was paced with nine first half points from Richard, as well as seven from Lathan. ISU outrebounded the Cardinals by a 19-14 margin at the break, but had turned the ball over 12 times and BSU was able to convert those into 13 points.
The Sycamores and Ball State were tied at the half at 29 each as Ball State scored first in the second half to take 31-29 lead. ISU scored the game's next four points to take a 33-31 advantage on a jumper by Carl Richard two minutes in and then a triple by Dwayne Lathan gave the Sycamores a 36-33 lead with 17:32 to go in the contest.

The Trees whittled away at the lead on a lay-up by Walker and then a free throw by Jake Odum to make it 53-46. Carl Richard hit a jumper with 8:32 remaining to make it 53-48.
ISU went scoreless from that Richard bucket until a driving lay-up by Lathan made it 59-50 with 5:01 remaining.
