CHICAGO -- Indiana State (1-2), on the final day of the Nick Kladis Classic, battled it out with the Eastern Kentucky Colonels (1-2) before falling in overtime by the final score of 64-59.
Dwayne Lathan led all ISU scorers with 16 points, while Myles Walker finished with 10 points and six boards.
The first half was a back and forth show between the Sycamores and the Colonels, with six lead changes. Thirteen Sycamores saw action in the first half, with Dwayne Lathan dropping in nine points and Myles Walker contributing five rebounds and two blocks. Walker would finish the game with a total of four blocked shots.
The Sycamores led by six with 3:42 on the clock in the first twenty minutes of play, but a late defensive effort by Eastern Kentucky resulted three consecutive turnovers by the Sycamores. Eastern Kentucky took the lead into the locker room with a score of 26-25.
Indiana State came out to a strong defensive start in the second half, holding the Colonels scoreless the first three and a half minutes of play. The Sycamores were never able to pull fully away however, as Eastern Kentucky's Devin McDonald and Josh Daniel combined for 21 points of the Colonels 26 second half points.
With 5:41 left to play in regulation, the Sycamore defense stepped up as the Sycamores stole or rebounded an EKU miss on four consecutive Colonel possessions. Jake Kelly connected with a field goal and four free throws as Indiana State took the lead at 49-46 with three minutes left. The Colonels answered with a trey of their own, and the game leveled at 49-49.
With 1:10 left, Eastern Kentucky took the lead by one on a made free throw. Jordan Printy connected on a big trey with :38 seconds remaining, and lifted the Sycamores to a two-point lead. Eastern Kentucky's Josh Jones answered right back with a lay-up to tie the game up at 52-52. Indiana State was unable to score on the final possession of the second half, and the game went into overtime.
In the overtime period, the Sycamores could not find the answer to Eastern Kentucky's offense, and Indiana State fell 64-59.
