CHICAGO -- In head coach Greg Lansing's second game at the helm, Indiana State (1-1), fought back but could not overcome an early lead by Nick Kladis Classic tournament-host Loyola (Ill.) (2-0). The Sycamores fell 86-74 to the veteran Ramblers team.
The first half started slow for the Sycamores as they struggled to contain a red hot Loyola Ramblers team that connected with seven 3-pointers. However, a late burst by Carl Richard provided ISU a much-needed boost in the final two minutes, as he added six points before the half. Richard also contributed five boards in the first 20 minutes of action to end the half at 42-27 with Loyola in the lead.
Indiana State raced out to open the second half, going on a 9-to-3 point run. Myles Walker dropped in six points in the opening few minutes, and the Sycamores saw more of Carl Richard to close the gap with the Ramblers.
Loyola began to fight back however, and the Sycamores were not able to close on the Rambler lead, despite five treys by Jordan Printy. Kelly and Printy both finished the game with 15 to lead all ISU scorers, with Carl Richard adding in 11 points and a team-high 9 rebounds.
The Sycamores had another strong shooting night, going 46.2% from three-point range and 45.8% from the field. R.J. Mahurin, Jake Odum, and Aaron Carter each added two steals as well.
The Sycamores close out the tournament Sunday (Nov. 14) against Eastern Kentucky (0-2). Tip off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (ET) and can be heard live locally on ESPN Radio 92.7FM and online at GoSycamores.com.
