TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State basketball head coach Greg Lansing received his second commitment today (Nov. 12) as Justin Gant has inked a national letter of intent and will join the Sycamore program next season. Gant joins Devonte Brown in Lansing's first recruiting class as head coach at Indiana State.
"It's certainly very exciting for our program adding Justin and Devonte to our Basketball Family," Lansing commented. "They are the two guys our staff targeted as our top priority. Justin has been a highly recruited player that was offered by Big 10 schools and deservedly so. Not only is he very talented but we're getting a player that has been very well coached in high school and has had to work very hard. He also an outstanding student. We feel so fortunate to add Justin to our five local guys on our team. It's something for Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley to be awfully excited about. I've got a great staff headed by Associate Head Coach Lou Gudino who deserve all the credit."
Gant is a 6-8, 210 power forward who has been a three-year starter for head coach Todd Woelfle at Terre Haute North Vigo High School. Gant was third in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference in scoring, averaging 17 points per game for the 17-7 Patriots. Gant averaged 17 on a team that scored 50 points per game, one of the best percentages among MIC leaders as far as percentage of points he provided for his team. He also averaged 8 rebounds per game.
He played AAU basketball for the Spiece Select 2011 team. Gant averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game for Spiece. He also played for the Indiana Elite team between his sophomore and junior seasons at North.
"The coaching staff is one I could see myself being coached by and ISU has great players. It's nice to stay in town with my family and friends. ISU is moving in the right direction. I want to be a part of that to help me be successful and get them back in the tournament," explained Gant to the Terre Haute Tribune Star upon making his decision to come to Indiana State.
