TERRE HAUTE, IND. ? Despite a one point loss at Purdue last Saturday, the Indiana State women's track & field team is still ranked among the top 25 in the nation as they fell two spots to 22nd in the rankings released today by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

“It is great to be ranked in the top 25,” John Gartland, Indiana State women's track & field coach, said. “However, the team is more focused on trying to avenge that loss last week when they face Purdue again this week along with another Big Ten team, Wisconsin, at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational.”

The Sycamores were ranked 20th in the USTFCCCA poll. Texas A&M and Oregon kept their 1-2 rankings from the pre-season poll. Southern Illinois moved past Indiana State, moving up three spots to 20th. Other Valley schools in the rankings include Northern Iowa at 68th, Missouri State 76th, Drake 79th, and Wichita State 90th. Indiana is ranked 28th in this week's poll with Purdue 61st, and Notre Dame 78th.

The Indiana State men are ranked among the top 100 schools in the nation as they are currently 76th in the USTFCCCA poll. The Sycamores opened the season 63rd in the pre-season poll.

Florida State and Oregon are ranked first and second, respectively, in this week's poll. Other Valley schools in the rankings include Northern Iowa in 74th, Wichita State 94th, Southern Illinois 105th, and Illinois State 112th. Indiana holds the highest ranking among state schools, coming in at 16th, with Purdue 57th, Butler 86th, and Notre Dame 90th.

Indiana State will be competing at the Wisconsin Elite Meet on Friday and Saturday. The Sycamores will be up against Wisconsin (ranked 31st men/72nd women), Purdue (57th men/61st women), and unranked South Dakota.

About the Rankings - The first three weeks of regular national-ranking updates include marks achieved in 2009 (preseason data) and in 2010 (current data). Preseason marks are phased out as athletes and relays achieve marks that better their preseason standing while current marks are phased in with the arrival of freshmen and the improvement of other squad members.
