Marshall got things started for Indiana State with a long jumper just a minute into the contest to give the Sycamores a quick 2-0 advantage. UNI's Johnny Moran answered with a 3-pointer on the Panthers' next possession to take the lead in what proved to be a rough and tumble first half that saw seven ties and five lead changes.
UNI took a 30-20 lead with 3:57 left in the first half as the Panthers embarked on a 13-3 spurt over a six minute span which include a three and half minute scoring drought for ISU between a Josh Crawford basket with 9:37 left in the opening stanza and a driving lay-up by Marshall with 5:55 to go. Carter added a free throw as well with five minutes to go but UNI's run was fueled by a pair of 3-pointers to take the 10-point advantage.
The Sycamores added a bucket by Crawford with 2:38 left which which was ISU's lone score over the final five minutes of the opening half. UNI outscored the Sycamores by a 19-5 clip over the final nine minutes of the first half. The Panthers owned a 36-22 lead at the break.
Marshall paced the Sycamores with nine points in the first half.
UNI scored the first six points out of the locker room to take a 42-22 lead before Koang Dolouny recorded a putback with 15:37 to go to make it 42-24. Doluony added two charity tosses with 15:01 left which made it 42-26 with 15 minutes left.

Aaron Carter got ISU up to within 59-34 with 7:05 to go. The Sycamore defense clamped down over the final seven and a half minutes by allowing just one field goal over that final span. During that time the Sycamores could not score a bucket themselves to take advantage, but did hit six free throws as UNI won its school-record 15th consecutive contest by the score of 62-40.
Marshall's 11 points led ISU as he was 5-of-10 from the field.
