TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - A pair of Sycamores posted career-highs but 12 3-pointers from Wichita State proved to be too much to overcome as the Shockers took an 84-73 decision in front of 4,577 fans inside Hulman Center.

ISU fell to 11-6, 3-3 MVC on the season while Wichita State remained in second place in the league standings and improved to 16-2, 5-1 MVC.

Harry Marshall led ISU with 29 points, besting his previous career-high set in a heroic effort last season at Illinois State. Marshall was 8-of-16 from the field, and hit 11-of-12 free throws to reach his personal best tally. Marshall added six rebounds and five assists in 37 minutes of action.

Josh Crawford came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points, hitting 8-of-9 from the field, was a perfect 1-of-1 from 3-point range and added three rebounds.

Wichita State blazed the nets to a 51.7 percent clip (15-of-29) in the first half and kept it up in the second despite an extremely intense Sycamore defensive effort. The Shockers were 14-of-21 from the field in the second stanza (66.7 percent) while ISU followed up a 10-of-23 first half (43.5 percent) with a solid 17-of-33 in the second (51.5 percent).

Each team was 14-of-21 at the free throw line. The Sycamores were without the services of sophomore Dwayne Lathan and redshirt freshman Koang Doluony due to injury.

ISU out-rebounded Wichita State by a 31-28 margin in the contest, marking the first time this season that the Sycamores were not victorious despite winning the battle of the boards. Carl Richard led ISU with 10 rebounds while posting eight points and a pair of blocked shots.

The Sycamores only turned the ball over nine times in the game while Wichita was guilty of 10. The Sycamores converted those Shocker miscues into 10 points while WSU was only able to post three points off of ISU turnovers.

Indiana State won the battle in the paint by a 36-26 margin and used its 8-2 offensive rebound advantage to score nine second chance points against Wichita's four.

Wichita State took the early advantage in the contest by hitting eight of their first 12 shots to stake themselves to a 21-12 advantage. The Shockers scored the game's first five points before the Sycamores answered with a field goal by Carl Richard. Through the game's first eight minutes, WSU had hit a trio of 3-pointers while the Sycamores had one from Aaron Carter.

Indiana State responded with an 8-3 run which featured a Richard jump shot that cut the lead down to 24-20. After starting out on fire, the Shockers cooled by hitting one of its next eight attempts as ISU trimmed the Wichita lead down from a high of 11 to four.

Just as quickly as WSU hit their lull, the Shockers responded by outscoring Indiana State 12-5 over the next three minutes to take a 36-25 lead with just under four minutes remaining to match WSU's largest lead of the opening stanza.

WSU took a 41-29 advantage with a minutes to go when ISU scored on an Isiah Martin lay-up to make it 41-31 and Crawford hit 1-of-2 shots after a flagrant foul was whistled on the Shockers Clevin Hannah, which cut the lead down to 41-32 with 22 seconds on the clock before the half.

Neither team could convert on their final possession as the Sycamores went into the locker room down 41-32 at the break. Marshall's 11 points at the break led the Sycamores while Clevin Hannah posted 12 for the Shockers.

Wichita State shot 51.7 percent from the field in the opening half, including a 7-of-14 mark from long range while the Sycamores stroked it to a 43.5 percent clip, but were just 1-of-5 from behind the arc. The Sycamores owned a 17-14 advantage on the glass before the break.

ISU was able to climb back into the game early in the second half by cutting the lead down to 48-43 behind and then a fast break jumper by Marshall with 13 minutes left made it 50-45. The Sycamores hit six of their first 10 shots to get within striking distance.

Wichita was able to get back some shooting momentum, as ISU was unable to convert a pair of wide-open shot opportunities. WSU's Graham Hatch connected on a triple to make it 61-52. David Kyles added a lay-up for the 63-52 advantage.

After WSU's lead grew to 64-52, Marshall continued his march to the free throw line to tie his season-high with 19 points and ISU kept its hopes alive by making it 64-54 with seven minutes on the clock. WSU hit its 10th 3-pointer of the contest to take a 67-54 advantage and Marshall became ISU's first 20-point scorer of the season as he drained a jumper cut the Shocker cushion down to 67-56.

Marshall made it 67-59 as his first 3-pointer of the game tied a career-high on ISU's next trip with five and a half to go. Crawford kept the Sycamore run alive with a jumper to make it 67-61 but Hannah answered with a triple to make it 70-61. After Wichita State took a 72-61 lead, Crawford hit first 3-pointer to the season with four minutes left to make it 72-64. That triple gave him 16 points and tied his career high.

After a Richard put-back made it 72-66, Marshall hit a 3-pointer to give him a new career-high and get ISU with a couple of possessions, 74-69 with two minutes on the clock.

A miracle 3-pointer by Toure' Murray ended a perfect ISU defensive possession with a minute to go to give Wichita a 77-69 lead when the Sycamores had cut the lead down to five points. A second chance opportunity by Crawford gave him a career-high of 18 points and cut the lead down to 81-73.

WSU was led in scoring by Gannah's 26 points while Murry added 17 and Hatch had 13.
