TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State and Evansville met for the 150th time on the hardwood as the Sycamores kept control of the all-time series lead with a 69-55 victory over the Purple Aces in front of 4,177 fans inside Hulman Center.

The Sycamores matched its victory total from last season in moving to 11-5, 3-2 MVC while Evansville fell to 6-9, 0-5 MVC. With the triumph, Indiana State moves into a three-way tie for third place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings alongside Missouri State and Wichita State as each league team has now played five MVC contests.

ISU looked to recover from a 91-85 overtime loss earlier in the week at Bradley, and just as the Sycamores have done all season, they bounced back with a victory after the loss, improving to 5-0 on the season after suffering a defeat.

The Sycamores held a 40-34 advantage on the boards and moved to a perfect 9-0 on the season when posting more rebounds than an opponent. The Sycamores' 40 rebounds in the game where the most for an ISU squad since recording 41 caroms at Drake on Jan. 7, 2009.

Harry Marshall reached double figures scoring for the fifth consecutive contest with his season-high 19 points. Marshall was 6-of-10 from the field, hit a pair of 3-pointers and was 5-of-6 at the free throw line with five rebounds, six assists and two steals in a team-high 34 minutes of action.

Marshall led a band of four Sycamores who reached double figures against Evansville, improving ISU to 8-1 on the season when three or more players score 10 or more points. Aaron Carter came off the bench to score a season-high 13 points, including a career-high tying seven free throws. Jordan Printy reached eclipsed double figures for the second consecutive game with four 3-pointers to score 12 points and Reed had his fourth consecutive ride of their 10-point mark with 12 points.

The victory by Indiana State gave the Sycamores a 76-74 lead in the all-time series against Evansville and gave ISU a perfect 2-0 start to league play on its home court. The Purple Aces swept ISU one year ago.

ISU also continued its success at the free throw line, hitting 15-of-18 charity tosses (an 83.3 percent clip) while Evansville was 8-of-11. From the floor, ISU was hit 22-of-53 shots while also hitting 10-of-25 from long range. The 10 made field goals from 3-point range come on the heels of a 16 trey performance at Bradley earlier this week which marks the first time the Sycamores have connected on 10 or more 3-pointers in consecutive contests since draining 14 at Illinois State (02/08) and 11 versus Drake (02/11) last season.

The Sycamores hit five of their first ten shots from the field, including a 3-pointer from Rashad Reed to race out to an 11-8 lead in the game's first eight minutes.

Trailing 8-7, Indiana State scored the game's next 12 points to take a 19-8 lead on a run which included a Harry Marshall triple with 11 minutes left before the break as well as his fast break dunk a minute later after creating a steal. Reed got in the action again with another trey at the top of the key with nine minutes left to cap the spurt.

Evansville finally ended Indiana State's with a 3-pointer by Denver Holmes with six and half minutes left which broke an eight minute scoreless spell to cut into the ISU advantage, 19-11.

During the ISU 12-0 run which lasted from the 14:35 mark until Holmes' bucket, Evansville shot just 22 percent from the field while the Sycamores' 50 percent mark helped the Sycamores to the 11-point cushion.

The Purple Aces responded with the game's next seven points to cut the lead down to 19-15, but Marshall countered with his own driving lay-up to push the advantage back to 21-15 with four minutes to go.

ISU ran the lead back out to 26-19 on a pair of free throws by Aaron Carter with just under a minute on the clock and after a defensive stop Printy drained a long-range 3-pointer just before the halftime buzzer for a 29-19 lead - its largest of the first half.

Marshall paced ISU with 12 first points, hitting 5-of-8 shots from the field. Reed added a pair of 3-pointers to score eight.

Indiana State maintained its 10-point advantage throughout the opening moments of the second half as the Sycamores led 38-28 with 14 minutes to go. The Sycamores scored the game's next six points to take a 44-28 lead with 12 minutes to go on a small run which was capped by a steal and breakaway dunk by Carl Richard.

After Evansville answered with a bucket, Printy drained his third 3-pointer of the game for a 49-30 lead with 11 to go. The Sycamores kept ringing it up from downtown as Reed posted his third of the game as well to stretch the cushion out to 52-30 with 10 minutes left. ISU made it three consecutive offensive possessions with a 3-pointer on another one by Printy which continued to build the advantage out to 55-30.

The Purple Aces were able to creep back within 20 points, but the Sycamores had the answer with a Marshall 3-pointer and a free throw by Aaron Carter until Colt Ryan's second 3-pointer of the game cut the lead back to 64-45.

Evansville used a late 10-2 run to cut the final margin down to 69-55.

21 points from freshman Colt Ryan and 10 from Denver Holmes led the Purple Aces.

The Indiana State Sycamores return to action on Wednesday, January 10 when they host Wichita State. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m. (ET). It will be a key early season game in the race as ISU is just one game behind the Shockers for second place in the MVC standings.
