The Indiana State Sycamores are continuing to press through with fall drills and worked out in full pads for the first time on Wednesday morning. Thursday marks the first of three two-a-day sessions for the Sycamores as they continue to prepare for the season opener on August 27 against Quincy. Kickoff is slated for 6:05 p.m. (EDT).

ISU continues to work on all phases of the game with a heavy emphasis on fundamentals and individual drills. There are currently 62 underclassmen on the Sycamores' 90-man preseason roster so attention to detail has been key in the early going for this talented squad.

Head coach Trent Miles and his staff are constantly working with the team to develop them into winners this preseason. It is preached on a minute-by-minute basis throughout the entire fall camp. To help bolster that line of thinking, Colonel Chris Colbert of the United States Army dropped by practice earlier this week to speak with the team.

Col. Colbert has had a vast amount of experience in service to our country. He has performed combat missions overseas multiple times and piloted one of the F-16 escorts for President George W. Bush as he was aboard Air Force One returning to Washington on the evening of September 11, 2001.

Colbert stressed that he trained and practiced throughout his entire life in order to be ready to perform when duty calls in the armed services. He likened that to the need for the ISU football team to train effectively in order to be ready for battle on Saturdays this fall and later in life.

The entire Indiana State football family thanks Col. Colbert for taking the time to visit our preseason camp and share his experiences with our players. There is a link to an interview that we conducted with Col. Colbert during his visit at the top of this article.

Drills will continue in earnest this week as the team works towards the annual Blue/White Fall Scrimmage on August 20, which begins at 6 p.m. The community and all Sycamore fans are encouraged to come out to Memorial Stadium for this free sneak preview of the football team just one week before the season opener!

All practices are open to the public. There is a complete list of  Sycamore football practice times on GoSycamores.com
