ST. LOUIS, MO. ? Indiana State sophomore Michael Disher (Indianapolis, Ind.) was named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.

Disher opened the 2009 outdoor track & field season by winning the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Indiana State University Invitational this past weekend. Disher ran 9:16.82 with a slight rain falling to win the event over teammates Kyle Walsh (second in 9:22.71) and Eric Schulz (third in 9:42.61).

The Sycamore sophomore has the best time in the Missouri Valley Conference for the 3000 meter steeplechase and missed an NCAA Regional qualifying mark by just 9.82 seconds.

Indiana State will be competing in the Eastern Illinois University Big Blue Classic which begins Thursday in Charleston, Ill., and run through Saturday.
