COLLEGE STATION, TEX. ? Indiana State juniors Kylie Hutson and Lauren Martin have been named NCAA Indoor Track & Field All-Americans, it was announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Hutson is the national champion in the women's indoor pole vault, setting an Indiana State and all-time Missouri Valley Conference record with a vault of 14-feet-3.25-inches (4.35 meters).
Martin was named an All-American in the women's triple jump after tying for 15th at the national championships with a leap of 41-feet-7-inches (12.67 meters).
“Saturday was a proud day in our program's history,” John Gartland, Indiana State women's track & field coach, said. “Kylie became our second women's track & field national champion and we now have a total of 15 women's indoor All-Americas since 1990.”
Hutson (Terre Haute, Ind.) is ISU's first women's national champion since Holli Hyche won the 55 and 200 meters at the 1994 NCAA Indoor Championships. The last national champion for Indiana State was Aubrey Herring, who won the men's 60 meters in 2001.
Martin (Schaumburg, Ill.) holds the Indiana State record in the triple jump with a leap of 43-feet-1-inch (13.13 meters) which she set in winning the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship title on March 1.
Hutson is now a two-time Indoor All-American, receiving her first honor after the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships after placing 11th in the pole vault. This is Martin's first All-American award.
ISU graduate Holli Hyche was named an All-American five times in Indoor Track & Field, winning the 55 meter dash and 200 meters in 1993 and again in 1994. Her first honor came in 1992 with a fifth place finish in the 200 meters.
Christy Barrett is also a two-time All-American, placing sixth in the shot put in 1990 and second in 1991. Carrie Myers is a two-time All-American, placing ninth in the weight throw in 1999 and fourth in 2000. Omega Keeys, Jenny Folz and Angie Bruecker were also named All-Americans for the Sycamore women's track & field team, Keeys placing seventh in the 200 meters in 1995, Folz fifth in the weight throw in 1999 and Bruecker eighth in the 800 meters in 2000.
