Sycamore Track Teams Compete Well At Eastern Illinois Friday Night Special

CHARLESTON, ILL. ? The Indiana State track and field's teams competed in their final tune-up before the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships next weekend, winning eight events at the Eastern Illinois Friday Night Special.

 

Freshman Brandon Pounds (Indianapolis, Ind.) was a double winner for the Sycamore men with a pair of personal best efforts. Pounds won the shot put with a heave of 58-feet-7.25, which was an NCAA Indoor Championship provisional qualifying mark and ranks sixth on the ISU all-time list. He also won the weight throw with a toss of 63-feet-0 which is fifth on the ISU all-time list. Senior Josh Williams (Osceola, Ind.) was fourth in the weight throw at 61-feet-3.5.

 

Junior Brandon Youngdale (Kokomo, Ind.) won the high jump with a personal best leap of 6-feet-11.5 with senior Curt Sunderland (Ashley, Ind.) fourth at 6-feet-9.5. Senior Anthony Bertoli placed second in the pole vault at 16-feet-0.75 while Jon Lautzenheiser was fourth in the long jump at 22-feet-8.5.

 

Also for the men's team, freshman Jeremiah Vaughan (Brookville, Ind.) won the 1000 meters with a time of 2:31.85, senior Thomas Crum (Fort Wayne, Ind.) took first in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:15.72 and the distance medley relay team also won with a time of 10:26.01.

 

Sophomore Michael Roberts (Indianapolis, Ind.) took fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.41 with sophomore Tykeen Fulton (Trenton, N.J.) fifth in 8.44. Junior Daryl Truitt (Indianapolis, Ind.) was fifth in the 60 meters, senior Antinoice Surry fifth in the 400 meters (49.95), senior Scott Keeney (Frankfort, Ind.) third in the mile (4:20.86), junior Eric Schulz (New Albany, Ind.) fifth in the 3000 meters (8:36.42) and sophomore Cody Siblisk (Peru, Ind.) second in the 5000 meters (16:20.53).

 

On the women's side, junior Annie Beasley won the high jump with a personal best leap of 5-feet-8 and junior Kayla Alexander (Terre Haute, Ind.) won the 3000 meters with a time of 10:27.49.

 

Senior Nikki Royer (Brazil, Ind.) was third in the pole vault at 11-feet-10.75 with sophomore Amanda Barlage (Yorkshire, Ohio) fourth at 11-feet-5. Junior Lauren Martin (Arlington Heights, Ill.) was sixth in the long jump (18-feet-3) and sophomore Kelsey Hanley (Arcadia, Ind.) was sixth in the weight throw (57-feet-5).

 

Senior Amanda Jones (Lafayette, Ind.) took second in the 600 meters (1:00.16), freshman Kacie Klem (Huntingburg, Ind.) third in the 800 meters (2:18.49), junior Erica Moore (Sullivan, Ind.) fifth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.90), sophomore Jaquelle Spencer (St. Louis, Mo.) fifth in the 60 meters (7.87), and senior Mary Kate Conway (St. John, Ind.) fifth in the 200 meters (26.10).

 

The Sycamores will be travelling to Cedar Falls, Iowa, next weekend for the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Northern Iowa.
