TOLEDO, Ohio - Indiana State junior Jake Kelly drained a jumper with 5.6 seconds left as the Sycamores earned a 55-54 road victory over Toledo in front of 3,687 fans at Savage Arena.

This year's Sycamores became just the 10th ISU team in the last 31 seasons to win at least seven games in its first ten contests with the win and improved to 7-3 while Toledo fell to 3-9.

ISU also earned its second Bracketbuster series two-game sweep in five tries with the win. The Sycamores bested Toledo 69-62 last season at Hulman Center. The Sycamores downed Western Michigan in both 2004-05 (away) and 2005-06 (home) as part of the scheduling concept.

Lathan hit a pair of free throws to help ISU build on its three-point halftime lead as he made it 34-29 just moments into the second stanza. Lathan added a jumper to give ISU a 36-29 lead and Carl Richard drained a triple for the 39-29 lead.

The Rockets did not score their first bucket of the second half until they had given up a 7-0 spurt to the Sycamores and had fallen behind 39-29.

Toledo was able to cut the lead down to 42-36 until Richard came back with a jump shot in the paint to send the lead back to 44-36 with 12 minutes to go.

ISU allowed the Rockets to sneak back into the game after having them down by eight as the Rockets embarked on a 7-0 run which was stymied by a pair of Isiah Martin free throws with six minutes to go which staked the Sycamores to a 46-43 lead.

Jordan Printy hit 1-of-2 free throws for a 47-45 lead before the game was knotted up for the first time in the second half on a pair of free throws by Lo with 4:37 left in the contest.

Toledo ended up with a 52-47 lead on 3-pointer by Barnett with just two minutes left and Lathan reached double figures scoring for a team-best eighth time this season when he hit a pair of free throws with 1:39 left cut the Rockets' lead to 52-49.

Toledo's lead went back to 54-49 on a whirling lay-in by Barnett, but Kelly answered with a pair of free throws to make the score 54-51 with a minute to go. Carl Richard fouled Lo to send him to the line for a one-and-one opportunity with 56 seconds left and he responded by missing the front end.

Richard hit a driving lay-up to make it 54-53 with 39 seconds on the clock. Dressler was fouled with 28.1 on the clock and he missed them both to give ISU the ball with the chance to take a late lead.

Kelly delivered in the clutch with a spinning jumper for the 55-54 lead with 5.6 seconds on the clock and left it up to the Sycamore defense. ISU held as Jay Shunnar's 3-pointer at the buzzer was long to clinch the win.

ISU was paced by 11 points by Lathan while Richard and Kelly added 10 each.

The Sycamores outrebounded Toledo by a 38-35 margin while ISU hit 18-of-47 shots from the field (38.3 percent).

ISU was without the services of senior guard Harry Marshall, who is suspended for a violation of team and university policies.

Dwayne Lathan struck first for Indiana State with a thunderous dunk in transition for the quick 2-0 advantage.

Toledo led 17-14 at the 9:05 mark of the first half until ISU was able to hold the Rockets scoreless over nearly a four minute stretch to take a 21-17 lead over what proved to be a lengthy 7-0 run.

ISU got scores from Josh Crawford and Carl Richard in the final two minutes of the first half to take a 32-29 lead into the locker room.

Isiah Martin, Kelly and Printy all had six points to lead ISU at the break.

Indiana State returns to action on Wednesday, December 23 when they host IUPUI at Hulman Center. Tipoff is slated for Noon (ET) as fans are invited to enjoy "Lunch At The Center" as a discounted lunch package featuring a hot dog, popcorn and a Pepsi product will be available for just $5.
