Three Sycamores Named To Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Academic Squad

ST. LOUIS - A trio of Sycamores were honored today (Dec. 1) by being named members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Academic Squad as announced today by the league office. The MVC All-Academic Team was selected by a poll of the conference's sports information directors.

Senior Dan Millington, an Exercise Science major with a 3.38 GPA, earned second team honors. Millington was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Second Team selection as well as an All-District Five pick. He made 35 tackles on the season, including 16 solo stops. Millington was credited with six tackles for loss, including a team-high three quarterback sacks. He was credited with a trio of quarterback hurries. Millington posted a season-high six tackles against Western Illinois and Southern Illinois along with two tackles for loss against South Dakota State. He posted sacks versus Eastern Illinois, South Dakota State and Youngstown State.

Senior Gabe Mullane, an Exercise Science major with a 3.91 GPA, also earned second team honors. Mullane punted 71 times over the course of the season for 2,560 yards, averaging 36.1 yards per kick. His career long boot of 61 yards came against North Dakota State and he had six punts of more than 50 yards. Mullane pinned the opposition inside their own 20-yard line a total of 15 times. He had 10 punts for a 37.5 average against Youngstown State with a season-best average of 45.7 yards per punt against North Dakota State.

Sophomore Alex Sewall, an Exercise Science major with a 3.56 GPA, was an honorable mention selection. Sewall was third on the team with 84 total tackles, including a pair of loss. He made 33 solo stops and also was credited with 51 assists. Sewall tallied a season-best 15 tackles against Northern Iowa and broke up a pass against Southern Illinois. His 8.4 tackles per game average was sixth in the league.
