TERRE HAUTE, IND. ? Several members of the Indiana State University track and field teams competed at the Rose-Hulman Friday Night Special held at the Recreation and Sports Center on the campus of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
“Emily (Pugh) ran really well in the mile,” John Gartland, Indiana State women's track and field coach, said. “Mostly, she runs in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter events but she showed that she can also compete in the mile. Natasia (San Cartier) also picked up two first place finishes.”
For the ISU women's team, Kortney Unger took second in the women's weight throw with a heave of 48-feet-0 while Kayla Rollins was third (44-feet-0.50). Rollins was also third in the shot put (33-feet-9.25).
Natasia San Cartier won two events for the Sycamores, taking the 55 meter dash in 7.86 seconds and the 55 meter hurdles in 9.14 seconds. ISU's Brynlea Mattocks was fifth in the 55 meter hurdles (10.19).
Five Sycamore runners competed in the mile with Emily Pugh leading the ISU contingent with a second place finish in 5:23.75. Bethany Scruton was third (5:35.15) in the event with Andrea Prusz sixth (5:38.08), Kristy Twitchell seventh (5:38.38) and Sarah Heaton 11th (6:04.29).
Indiana State also had four of the top seven in the 400 meters led by Rochanda Johnson who finished third in 1:04.56. Mattocks placed fourth (1:06.79) in the event with Kylie Hesler fifth (1:07.15) and Alexandria Ray sixth (1:07.19).
Caitlin Whittington finished eighth in the 800 meters (2:53.14)
For the men's team, Cody Siblisk finished sixth in the mile with a time of 4:37.20 while Scott Koressel was second in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:01.91 and Thomas Crum fourth in the 3000 meters in 9:12.26.
The Sycamores will be competing in the Purdue Triangular/Gene Edmonds Cup on Saturday at West Lafayette, Ind. The meet kicks off at 11 a.m. (ET).
