NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Indiana State All-American tight
end Jamie Petrowski has been promoted to the Tennessee Titans active roster for
the playoffs after spending each of the past two seasons on the National
Football League team's practice squad.
Petrowski will make his
debut with the Titans in a NFL Wild Card Playoff Game this Sunday when Tennessee travels to the San Diego Chargers.
He will be the first Indiana State Sycamore to be on a regular season or
playoff NFL roster since Dan Brandenburg played for the Buffalo Bills in 1995
and 1996. Petrowski was a free agent signee with the Titans in 2006.
He has worked as a practice
squad member for head coach Jeff Fisher over the past two seasons and enjoyed a
standout season this past summer with the Frankfort Galaxy of NFL Europe.
Petrowski enjoyed his best game as a pro with the Galaxy when he paced the team
with five pass receptions for 76 yards in a narrow 19-17 loss at Amsterdam. His long pass reception last
season was a 30-yarder off the arm of quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan versus the
Admirals.
Petrowski was promoted to
the Titans active playoff roster following an injury last week to tight end Bo
Sciafe, suffered against the Indianapolis Colts.
As
a collegian, Petrowski was a first team all-conference as well as academic
all-conference selection and was second on the team with 57 pass receptions for
513 yards and a pair of touchdowns in 2005. His 57 pass receptions eclipsed the
previous school record for catches in a season, which was also broken that year
by wide receiver Sam Logan.
He
caught a season-long 33-yard pass from Phillip Johnson, as he was on the
receiving end of a pair of fake punt passes against Western Kentucky. Petrowski caught a season-best 10
passes for 133 yards versus the Hilltoppers and hauled in at least two passes
in each game during the season.
Petrowski
was named a Third Team All-American by The Sports Network as well as The
Associated Press.
Tennessee's opening game in the playoffs
against the Chargers will kickoff at 4:30 p.m. (ET) on CBS.
