INDIANA STATE TO PLAY IN WEST VIRGINIA INVITATIONAL

TERRE HAUTE, IN - The Indiana State Sycamore volleyball team takes a one-game winning streak on the road this weekend as they participate in the West Virginia University Invitational in Morgantown, W.Va., Friday and Saturday.

The Sycamores (2-3) open the weekend by taking on the host Mountaineers (5-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Indiana State plays East Tennessee State (5-2) at 12:00 p.m. Saturday and then takes on Butler (2-5) at 5:30 p.m.

Indiana State is coming off a determined effort in the first of two home matches to be played in the Hulman Center this year. The Sycamores topped the visiting Chicago State Cougars 3-1 in front of 287 fans on Tuesday. Indiana State will host Illinois State in the Hulman Center on Oct. 13.

"We are going to play teams that are very similar to those in the Missouri Valley," assistant coach Nick Wolf said before the team left today for Morgantown. "This is our final tune-up before the conference season begins."

The Sycamores will begin the Missouri Valley Conference season on Sept. 14 when they travel to Evansville to battle the Purple Aces. They will remain on the road to take on Southern Illinois on Sept. 15.

Jodilynne Stoker has 45 kills (2.50 per game) and Kristen Kerscher 42 kills (2.33 per game) while Katie Dilling leads in hitting percentage at .419. Alisha Polite has 122 assists and Whitney Fromm 54 so far this season while Kristy Cox has 66 digs and Stephanie Meier 52 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Kelli Whitaker may see her first regular season action this weekend after suffering an ankle injury during the Alumni Match on Aug. 25.

"We have also had several players sick but it is best to get this all out of the way before the conference season begins," Wolf said.
