INDIANAPOLIS ? Indiana State University freshman Erica Moore (Sullivan, Ind.) competed in the 2007 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday, finishing 20th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.72.
“It wasn't her best time of the season but she competed against some of the best athletes in the United States,” said John Gartland, Indiana State women's track and field coach. “It was a good experience for her.”
As a freshman this past year, Moore finished second in the Heptathlon, was the Missouri Valley Conference champion in the 400 meter hurdles and finished 10th in the 100 meter hurdles at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She also finished 11th in the 400 meter hurdles at the NCAA Mid-East Regional.
Two athletes with ties to Indiana State will also be competing this weekend. Jordan Fife, a recent graduate of Indiana State, will be competing in the 3000 meter steeplechase at 4:15 p.m. today. Fife was named All-American and All-Missouri Valley Conference several times during his years as a Sycamore competing in both cross country and track and field.
Also competing will be Indiana State assistant track coach Aubrey Herring, who will be competing in the 110 meter hurdles which start at 4:50 p.m. Saturday. Herring has been an ISU assistant for two years after competing for the Sycamores, winning the NCAA championship in the 60 meter hurdles in 2001. He was a seven time All-American while at ISU.
The 2007 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships and the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships are both being held at the Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of IUPUI in downtown Indianapolis. The team for the 2007 PanAm Games in Brazil will be selected at the conclusion of the meet.
