TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State University Head Men's Basketball Coach Kevin McKenna today (April 23) announced the hiring of Stan Gouard and Lou Gudino to his staff with the Sycamores.
Gouard just finished his second season as an assistant coach at Indiana State, after spending three previous seasons at the University of Indianapolis as an assistant coach. Gouard is a native of Danville Illinois, and has been inducted into the Logan Junior College Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998 and in February was inducted in the University of Southern Indiana Hall of Fame.
“I'm very excited to get the opportunity to work with Coach McKenna,” said Gouard. “Everything I heard about him has been positive. It is a great opportunity for me to work with guys who I have recruited and developed strong bonds with.”
Gudino just finished his second season as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech after serving the previous two seasons as head coach at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas. A native of Clinton Indiana, Gudino's 2004-05 teams won its first Western Junior College Athletic Conference championship with a 26-4 record and was ranked number 16 nationally, the highest in school history. In his two seasons as head coach, Gudino compiled a record of 42-18.
“Obviously, I'm excited in getting the opportunity to work for Coach McKenna. His knowledge of the game is extensive and being able to learn from him will be great,” said Gudino. “The tradition of the Valley and Indiana State basketball I know very well. I've always wanted to coach in a big conference and at a school with a great tradition. I can't wait to get started.”
