TERRE HAUTE, Ind. ? Indiana State redshirt freshman defensive back Darius Middlebrooks has been named to the Gateway Football Conference's All-Newcomer team as announced by the league office earlier today (Nov. 28).
Gateway coaches, sports information directors and a media panel selected the team. The top 11 vote-getters on offense and defense, plus ties, were named to the team.
Middlebrooks, a 5-11, 190, redshirt freshman from Indianapolis (North Central), Ind., posted 92 total tackles, including 36 solo tackles in nine games played. His tackle total ranked second-best on the team and in the Top 60 nationally. Middlebrooks recorded one pass breakup and forced a fumble. He posted a season-best 13 tackles in three consecutive games against Illinois State, Western Kentucky and Missouri State.
